MREPC participated in a promotional mission on rubber and rubber products to the Philippines from 17 - 20 July 2017, with the aim to strengthen trade in rubber and rubber products as well as foster further collaboration on the development of the rubber industry. The mission was led by the Honourable Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, with participation from various agencies. During the mission, MREPC and the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) jointly organised a half-day roundtable discussion with raw rubber and rubber products importers, buyers, distributors and associations. The aim of the roundtable session was to get feedback on issues and concerns from the Philippines industry members pertaining to trade in rubber and rubber products. Datuk Seri Mah delivered the welcoming remarks at the roundtable discussion. The interactive discussion provided useful feedback on trade in rubber and rubber products between Malaysia and the Philippines as well as updates on the Philippines rubber industry. The delegates from MREPC and MRB also made a courtesy call on the Under Secretary of Department of Agriculture and the Secretary of Department of Trade and Industry. They also visited the liaison office of the Philippines Rubber Research Institute (PRRI) and met with officials from the Philippines Rubber Industries Association (PRIA) and Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS), with the objective to foster collaboration in enhancing the development of the rubber industry.
