    The world's most widely used standard for Quality Management Systems, the ISO 9001:2008 has just been released on 15 November 2008. This new release will be the 4th edition, since its initial publication in 1987. The user community has been anxiously waiting to see what lies in store in the 2008 version and more importantly, to be able to ensure that their quality management systems go through a smooth transition to the new requirements.

    Users of ISO 9001:2000 will have up to two years to upgrade their systems to ISO 9001:2008. All accredited certifications issued will be to ISO 9001:2008 by the end of 2009. By the end of 2010, existing certification issued to ISO 9001:2000 will no longer be valid.The users will need the revised version of ISO 9001 in order to keep their certificates up to date.
